Sideburns Are Back Because They Never Left

Some of you are saying, “Paul, sideburns are dead ever since Luke Perry killed them in the 90’s.” And to you I say no one man is bigger than sideburns, just like no man can take credit for “inventing” them. That’s like saying Tom Selleck “invented” the moustache for his role on Magnum P.I.  And contrary to those of you who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s when Dylan McKay was king, sideburns have been around much longer than the hit show Beverly Hills, 90210. Take a look at this link; and look at side burns through the ages all the way thru the present day.

In NBA Playoffs, Beards Abound

Somewhere James Worthy’s beard is smiling. Why? Because modern NBA players have stumbled upon a secret he patented years ago while winning titles in the 80’s. Want to successfully advance through the NBA Playoffs? Then grow a beard; the data came back from the lab and the science can’t be disputed.

More players are rocking full beards than any time in recent memory. In the Mavericks vs. Thunder series the Mavs DeShawn Stevenson’s “Neck Forest” is only rivaled by the Thunder’s James Harden who we covered earlier in the week. On the other side of the bracket, the Bulls double trouble bearded combo of Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah are outnumbering LeBron’s “mane” two to one but the series is even. No matter who wins either Conference Final, we’re bound to see some serious beard on beard action in the Finals.

How to Drive a Stick Shift

Drive a stick.

We’ve already covered the importance of tying a tie in a man’s life. Now it’s time for something even more practical: how to drive a stick shift. As with the tie, driving a stick shift is just one of those things that every guy should know how to do. Imagine the day your friend or father-in-law offers you the keys to his brand new Shelby or asks you to take the wheel of his Porsche. Do you want to have to say no? Worse yet, do you want to be the guy grinding the gears?

I thought not. Thankfully, Bullz-Eye has put together a quick set of tips for learning to drive stick. Of course nothing can substitute for time behind the wheel, so make sure you get some good experience before hitting the streets. Here’s a quick look at the guide:

If you’re an experienced driver, you’ve probably heard the benefits of driving an automobile that has a manual transmission. For starters (no pun intended), cars with stick shifts are generally very fuel efficient, which is obviously a bonus in today’s economy where the gas prices continue to rise. They also have fewer moving parts than automatic transmissions, require less maintenance and are easier to repair, which means they usually have longer longevity and cost cheaper.

Cars with stick shifts also respond better to the driver, which makes them safer (assuming the driver himself is safe). Due to the constant shifting and changing of gears, drivers have to focus more on driving, which means less time for texting, talking on the phone, or doing other dangerous activities that many people with automatic transmissions partake in.

James Harden’s Beard Keys Thunder Victory

Yesterday, the Oklahoma City Thunder advanced to the Western Conference Finals with a 105-90 victory in game seven over the Memphis Grizzlies. As a key reserve and generally the Thunder’s first player of the bench, James Harden’s beard scored 17 points (most of it via four three pointers he nailed), collected four rebounds, had four steals. And in the process throughout the series, he made it cool to have a beard again. For everything that Brawny paper towels tried to do by replacing the iconic “Brawny Man” and limiting his beard, James Harden’s beard is single handedly reversing the trend.

Brad Pitt channels Don Johnson

Brad Pitt does his best imitation of Don Johnson playing Sonny Crockett from “Miami Vice” as he steps out at the Cannes Film Festival. He has the same slicked-back hairstyle, the all-white suit and even the goatee! Does that mean that all the 80s styles are coming back?
