“Mansome”- The Movie

“You try to look good to meet a woman. Or, you try to look good so the woman doesn’t run away.”

Morgan Spurlock, the director of the hit documentary “Super Size Me” has a new documentary coming out called “Mansome”, which takes a humorous look at the recent boom in popularity of men’s grooming.

“Men do crazy things for women, to get them and to keep them,” he said. “If all women were like, I want to have sex with a big, hairy Neanderthal, next thing you know one of the most popular products would be stuff that grows hair on your back and forearms.”

Mike Miller can’t keep his hands off of his own hair. It has never been more apparent to me than it has while watching the Heat in this year’s NBA playoffs. And neither would you if you were Mike Miller, friend. Go ahead, deny it. But, can you blame him- the fact is, it looks great.

“What three adjectives would you use to describe it, Paul?”

1) Flowing

2) Cascading

3) Unbridled

Sure, there was a time when it just looked shitty. But now, he’s rocking the mussed look. Watch the Heat as they try to close out the Knicks tomorrow afternoon. And every time Mike Miller strokes his hair, slam a beer.

Like Brian Wilson’s Elbow, Beards In The Summer Are DONE

No matter what Brian Wilson wants you to believe, summer is no time for a beard or a moustache. Is there a worse feeling than being stuck outside (working, gardening, drinking) in 98 degree heat being pelted by the merciless rays of the sun?

It’s amplified tenfold if you’re all bearded/goateed up because it absorbs all the sweat from your head and just SITS there. Beards are great for winter, especially if you think scarves are for girls/hipsters, and moustaches work in the fall. But in the summer, less is more. How else can you feel the soothing caress of your special lady’s hand on your face if it’s covered by facial hair? You can’t, so clean it up!

What Makes A Man, a “Man”?

Still think it’s considered “questionable” for a man to care about the way his skin looks and feels? Venture out of your cave, man- it’s a new world. While there was definitely an era when it wasn’t considered “macho”, times have changed.

50% of all men’s grooming product purchases are now actually made by the men who use them, compared to 10 years ago when that number was roughly half. “If anything went beyond Old Spice, or if it got too poofy, you would kind of be laughed at. Now, there are so many products.”
