Heisman Hopefuls Hair As Versatile As Playing Styles

Tonight, one of five finalists will be announced as the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner. And just like with style of play or position, each finalist has his own take on men’s grooming.

Until recently Alabama’s Trent Richardson had sported dreds like fellow Heisman finalist, Baylor’s Robert Griffiin III, but shaved them off in favor of a tight fade. Speaking of fades, LSU’s Tyrann Mathieu has sported a dyed blond fade/faux hawk all season which actually typifies his playing style. Stanford’s Andrew Luck’s hair says all you need to know about him- short on flash or frills, he gets it done efficiently. Montee Ball’s hair is short, to the point and gets it done without much fanfare.

If I got a vote for the “Heisman of Hair” from this group, I’d vote Mathieu.

Battle Of The Beards

It’s cold out, so it’s time to grow a beard, especially if you play for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Current Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel is the latest Steelers player to dawn a beard that most men can only fantasize about. “Da Beard” as it has been dubbed, has it’s own facebook page and Twitter account, and presumably, a slew of willing women.

Prior to “Da Beard”, longtime Steelers guard Alan Faneca rocked a beard of similar girth, using it to mushroom stamp defenders and put them on their backs.

So in a head to head battle of recent Steelers history, whose beard is the “Alpha Beard” – Keisel’s or Faneca’s?

“Mo” Staches, Less Problems

It’s Movember, the month formerly known as November, which is dedicated to growing moustaches and raising awareness and funds for men’s health. A moustache (Mo) will spark conversations, and no doubt generate some laughs; all in the name of raising vital awareness and funds for cancers affecting men.

Colts Punter Donates Flowing Mane

This week Colts punter Pat McAfee decided to shave off 12 inches of his hair and donate it to “Locks for Love” which is great because his hair looked ridiculous. Many people have speculated that he grew his hair out during the past year as a disguise thanks to a strange public intoxication arrest last October.

Hey, at least he knows how to party.
