As more comic book film adaptations like Ninja Turtles and Guardians of the Galaxy smash records at the box office, fans are more excited than ever to see their favorite characters come to life. But eBay is taking true fans back to the beginning of it all with the auction of “Action Comics #1″—the first comic where Superman appears.

Check out this quick video on the origin of Superman:

This rare piece of comic history, which grew into one of the most beloved franchises of all time, will be up for auction through 8/24 exclusively on eBay. This infographic covers the full timeline and histroy.

It is believed that there are only 50 to 100 copies of the issues left in the world. An auction in 2011 saw Nicholas Cage’s copy of the comic sold for $2.1 million.

Regarded as one of the most valuable comics in existence, there are believed to be as few as 50 unrestored original copies left in the world, and it’s the only comic to set record-breaking sale prices.
