Debunking the calorie theory

Mike Furci Calorie Theory.

If you want to lose weight you have to cut your calorie intake, right? That might be true if your body metabolized all calories in the same way. It doesn’t, so you need to know a little bit more if you want to shed those extra holiday pounds.

Bullz-Eye’s Mike Furci recently posted an article debunking the “calorie theory” of fat loss. Here’s a quick look at the kinds of things you need to know in order to lose body fat:

The efficiency at which a person burns food as fuel decreases as they get fatter. In other words, the higher a person’s body fat percentage, the more adept they are at storing food as body fat. This is because a higher body fat percentage and insulin insensitivity have a linear relationship, causing an extraordinary release of insulin when food is consumed. The macro-nutrient that is responsible for these large surges of insulin is carbohydrates. This can be a nightmare for any person, especially somebody who is overweight and trying to lose body fat.

There is a lot to know, but Mike Furci does a great job of breaking down the basics so you can get the most out of your workouts and starting eating right for a fit body. Head over to Bullz-Eye.com for his full article on debunking the calorie theory.

Bullz-Eye’s Mike Furci talks cardiovascular disease

Brushing your teeth.Bullz-Eye’s fitness expert Mike Furci put together an article recently that covers a lot of popular health and fitness rumors and myths. Some are true, some aren’t, and Mike uses the latest research to discuss these fitness trends over on Bullz-Eye.com.

Here’s just one of his ‘Did You Know’ sections:

Did you know inflammation, cardiovascular disease (CVD) and brushing your teeth are all related? A study of 11,869 men and women mirrors previous research and finds a link between gum disease and cardiovascular disease. Participants were asked how often they visited the dentist and how often they brushed their teeth. 62% of the participants reported regular (at least every six months) visits to a dentist and 71% reported good oral hygiene (brushing teeth twice a day). There were 555 CVD events over an 8.1 year average follow-up, which resulted in 170 deaths. 74% of the CVD reported was coronary heart disease. Participants who reported less frequent tooth brushing had a 70% increased risk of a CVD event compared with participants who brushed their teeth twice a day.
