Durden’s Barber Shop offers the old-fashioned experience

Tim Durden's baber shop. When you want the old-fashioned barber shop experience, look no further than Durden’s Barber Shop in Augusta, Georgia. The shop has been with owner Tim Durden’s family ever since Tim’s father opened 53 years ago.

Even though the shop is off the beaten path, it has remained successful because of its longtime reputation in the community, Durden said.

“It’s a fun business. The people who have been coming here for years, they’re like your extended family,” he said.

Durden follows several principles to run the business.

“I think having a good attitude and treating people the way you want to be treated are the basic business philosophy,” Durden said.

He also believes in customer service. He’s a one-man show, so he sends a mass e-mail to his customers whenever he plans to be out of the shop, he said.

If you’re ever in Georgia and in need of a haircut, be sure to look up Tim Durden.

Keep up with ‘Mad Men’ at the Bullz-Eye fan hub

The new season of ‘Mad Men’ is underway, throwing us all back into the world of Don Draper and the hay day of advertising. When you need to get your fix in between episodes, you can get the latest news, reviews and interviews from the cast and crew of AMC’s hit show.

From the main page:

When 2007 kicked off, AMC was a network best known for the fact that it had, after putting Halle Berry’s “Catwoman” into its screening rotation, given up all pretense that the letters in its name still stood for “American Movie Classics.” Before the end of the year, however, people had stopped talking about AMC’s movies and started buzzing about its original programming, thanks to the unexpected success of a new hour-long drama about – of all things – an ad agency during the 1960s. Given that the show’s creator, Matthew Weiner, had arrived from a stint on HBO’s “The Sopranos,” nobody was really surprised that it was good. But there’s good, and then there’s “Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series” good, and you’d damned well better believe that “Mad Men” falls into the latter category.

Axe “Guys and Girls” study shows the importance of good grooming

Most of us guys think we know it all when it comes to grooming and women. Wrong! There is no better way to learn about both subjects than a real live study. Good thing our friends at AXE are on the ball and these results are worth noting.

This AXE study was conducted with Guys and Girls at six major U.S. colleges and universities to learn what they thought about male grooming. In this study 261 guys were asked to shower with bar soap for one week and with AXE shower gel and the AXE detailer shower tool for one week (for all of you guys out there that don’t use AXE don’t get too nervous as no permanent damage is done just yet!).

Here are some of the results for all of the inquiring minds out there:

* 66% of girls surveyed felt that a guy who put more effort into their personal hygiene was sexy.

* A shower a day makes the girls want to play! 75% of the girls said they would only date a guy who showered daily.

* 81% of the girls said they’d be more willing to shower at a guys apartment if he had AXE Shower Gel in his shower (and not bar soap only). I can just see sales of AXE going gangbusters right now…..

* 90% of guys said they smelled better after using AXE Shower Gel.

* 88% of guys felt more confident in high pressure situations including presentations after showering with AXE.

* (This is the big one) While using AXE Shower Gel and the AXE Detailer Shower tool, guys were seven times more likely to hook up than guys who used bar soap alone.

Get a natural shave with Everblade

Everblade logo.We received some samples of pre shave gel, shave lather and after shave moisturizer from the folks at EverBlade. After using these products several times a few things stood out. 1) These products are really made from a natural preservative system without dyes, or alcohol and is chemical free. 2) You can tell all three products are of high quality and smell really good.

Knowing that this set is about as natural as you will find out there in shaving products combined with the fresh clean feeling you get your day off to a smart start! I really noticed how smooth and moisturized my face felt after finishing off my shave with the EverBlade after shave product.

Granted you will pay more for EverBlade than off the shelf shaving products at your drug store but if you are going for the natural shaving products and want to do your own thing you will probably be happy with your purchases.

601 Serie Box-Pressed Maduro (Blue) review

601 Serie Box-Pressed Maduro.Cigar guru Bob Hritsko has been puffing his way through the summer to bring you reviews of the best smokes to spend your lazy afternoons with. This time, he’s reviewed the 601 Serie Box-Pressed Maduro (Blue), a smooth, full-bodied cigar that’s the perfect end for a hot day.

From his review:

In the initial puffs, the cigar showed a black cherry, smoky flavor with an obvious peppery finish, but it did not take long to blend these flavors nicely, occasionally offering a vanilla and earthy tone. Certainly a rich, full-bodied smoke as you would expect with a Pepin cigar. The good news – I never felt overpowered by the cigar’s level of nicotine, something that Pepin cigars traditionally deliver a fair amount of. As I smoked through the halfway point, I found the peppery aftertaste subsiding enough to provide a great smoke! The ash, which tended to be mostly white, stayed intact through the halfway point, signifying a quality, well-made cigar.

The second half of the cigar showed more earthly flavors and a strong, espresso-like richness. I found the cigar to be nicely complex in flavor and aroma. With just the nub left, I did feel the cigar began to burn a little hot and tended get slightly harsh.

On the whole, sounds like a damn fine smoke. For more cigar reviews and news on our favorite vices, check out the Vices Channel at Bullz-Eye.
