Top 5 Engagement Ring Trends for 2011

Proposing marriage is tough enough, so here at BarberShopBlog, we’ve decided to give you fellas a little help by cluing you in on the most popular engagement ring trends this year to help you narrow down your choices. From colored stones to vintage settings, this guide has got you covered.

# 1. Colored stones

Sapphires are all the rage this year, thanks to the marriage between His Royal Highness, Prince William, to Catherine Middleton, now known as Duchess of Cambridge. An 18-carat sapphire previously owned by the late Princess Diana was offered to symbolize the couple’s intent to marry. As a result, girls all over the world began to covet sapphire rings in place of traditional diamond engagement rings, wanting to emulate the new Princess.

#2. Intricate vintage settings

The 70s are making a comeback, both on the runway, and on the hands of many brides-to-be. Lofty settings where a central diamond is set against many other smaller diamonds have been seen on the engagement rings of celebrities like Kate Hudson, Nikki Reed (of Twilight fame) and Bonnie Wright, who plays Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter movies. All three ladies have gotten engaged earlier this year. To emulate this look, find a local antique jeweler, or buy certified diamonds from a trusted retailer and design the ring yourself!

#3. Twisted ring bands

Designers have put in a little swing in this year’s rings by twisting the metal into pretty, swirly shapes instead of the traditional circle band.

#4. Environmentally-friendly rings

Helping to save the planet never really went out of style, but give your engagement a whole new level of depth by purchasing a diamond from conflict-free sources. You can even recycle gold and other precious metals from existing jewelry, materials for industrial use, and electrical component pieces. This practice helps minimize gold mining, which happens to be very environmentally destructive.

#5. Classic solitaire

A single diamond, set simply in a lovely band, never goes out of style. Its chic, elegant simplicity and traditional design makes a solitaire diamond ring timeless; something that a couple can pass on to their daughter or son as an heirloom, kept within the family for generations.

Bullz-Eye reviews the 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo SE

2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo SE.

Bullz-Eye recently took the 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution SE out for some test driving. The Lancer Evolution takes the small, four-door Lancer and drops a ton of power into it. If you’re looking for fuel economy, this is definitely not the car you want to be driving.

Here’s an excerpt from the 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution SE review:

The interior of the 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Special Edition 4-door sedan keeps it real with black fabric seats and a dashboard that has matured in time. The current model has a new, high-contrast multi-color LCD instrument meter to enhance visibility while a leather-clad parking brake lever with chrome release button adds a premium touch. The leather-wrapped steering wheel has mounted cruise control along with audio switches. The Recaro heated front sport seats hug the driver and passenger, security that we relished when taking on the worst of the road. Bluetooth hands free system coupled with a 140-watt CD/MP3 audio system with six speakers make life easier while driving. The overall interior won’t compete with top of the line sedans when it comes to luxury features but, you have to remember, the Evo is built for speed so some sacrifices will have to be made when it comes to comfort.

Reebok launches the Triple Black Kamikaze

This past Friday, Reebok unveiled the latest style in athletic shoes, the Triple Black Kamikaze.

The Triple Black Kamikaze is a monochromatic all black hi-top sneaker with an upper made of leather, nylon and suede. It incorporates 3-pod Hexalite sole technology for superior cushioning, and systematically placed flex frooves on the outsole for added traction.

These are also the kicks that Rick Ross customized with gold paint and wore during the Hot 97 Summer Jam in NYC earlier this month. The new Triple Black Kamikaze retails for $100 and was made available on Friday, July 8th at retailers around the nation. Check in with your local footwear retailer to pick up your Kamikazes.

How To Style A Mohawk

If you were at the Dropkick Murphy’s concert last night like I was, then you no doubt were exposed to some great Mohawks. Mohawks that defied gravity, convention and in some cases good taste. But then again, that’s the point of a Mohawk; to fly in the face of what most people think is a good idea. And, to score some hot punk rock babes in the process.

So, how do you get yours? What’s the first step to attracting a babe who rocks the earring to nose ring a la Jane Child in the 80″s? Follow this step by step guide and piss off your mom and your manager at the bank you work at in one fell swoop.
