Movember is the leading global charity committed to changing the face of men’s health by sparking conversations though the growth of moustaches throughout the month of November.

The Movember Foundation exists to bring attention to health issues men face; specifically to reduce mortality from prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s suicide. And, to have fun while doing it.

But why? Lots of reasons, all men’s health specific:

– The average life expectancy for men in the United States is almost five years less than women.

– One in two men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.

– 12.1% of men 18 years and over are in fair or poor health.

– Men are 24% less likely than women to have visited a doctor within the past year.

Movember (the month formerly known as November) is used to spark conversation about and raise funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems. Movember is entering its 11th year as a charity and has raised $550 million during that time frame.

So how does it work?

1. Sign up and become a “Mo Bro” at Movember.com. Must begin the 1st of Movemeber with a clean shaven face.

2. Grow and groom a moustache for the entire month. No beards, no goatees.

3. Donate.

4. Use the moustache to create conversations and funds about men’s health.

5. Have fun.

What’s more masculine than a moustache? Nothing. And, what is more fun than a “Moustache Ride?” Uh, nothing duh.

Movember starts this Saturday.

Experts say that men are 26 percent less likely than women to have visited a doctor within the past year and 35% more likely to pass away from cancer than women.

Dr. Muhammad Mirza, a certified general practitioner, men’s health expert and founder of ErectileDoctor.com, states that these symptoms are what potentially bring the patient to the doctor’s office or at least motivates the patient to do research on their own to ultimately discover that they indeed have a health issue that needs addressing.

1. Frequent and painful urination– Painful and frequent urination and/or incomplete emptying of the bladder are symptoms that could indicate prostate cancer.

2. Testicle size– Any notable change in testicle size, either bigger or smaller could be a symptom of testicular cancer.

3. Changes in skin pigmentation– Discoloring of the skin and/or noticeable spots on the skin could be symptoms of skin cancer.

4. Abdominal pain paired with depression– These symptoms together have been found in men who were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

5. Persistent cough or a cough that brings up blood– Aggressive and consistent coughing that bring up blood are symptoms of lung cancer, although lung cancer often doesn’t produce symptoms until its later stages.

6. Blood in the stool, nausea, indigestion, and abdominal pain– Any of these could be symptoms of colon and/or stomach cancer.

7. Blood in the urine– This could be a symptom of bladder cancer.

“Et tu, Brute?”

Who among us hasn’t been “betrayed” by our deodorant? Do we hold it accountable, or do we just live with it and blame ourselves?

In their quest for the perfect men’s deodorant, Brut really cranked the weirdness meter up to 11, as evidenced by the groundbreaking technique shown below:

The result? The most superior men’s deodorants ever created, embodied in two separate scents: Black Ice and Blue Wave.

I tried both and found them to be distinctly different. While both scents are subtle to your nostrils, Black Ice is a stronger scent, a little more forceful.

Blue Wave was barely even detectable, but it provided a crisp, fresh scent that lived up to the name Blue Wave, which made me think of the chick-centric surfing movie, Blue Crush.

Blue Wave is like Kate Bosworth’s character, Anne Marie. Free flowing and effective, but unsure about pursuing her dream of becoming a professional surfer over a pending relationship with NFL quarterback Matt Tollman in town for the Pro Bowl in Hawaii during the offseason.

Black Ice is the hardcore Eden, played by uber-babe Michelle Rodriguez. It’s rugged, rough and uncompromising, but still super hot and appealing in a completely different way.

After all the awards, it became apparent: Men’s Health was either trying to sleep with eShave, or eShave products are really that good. We decided it was the latter based on personal experience, but we also wouldn’t be surprised if eShave was a complete monster in the sack to boot.

One time, Brad Smith returned a kickoff 90 yards-with one shoe. Another time, he scored on a 32 yard scamper via the ground. Yet another, he returned a blocked punt for a TUD. And I didn’t even mention the fact that last season he scored on a 32 yard receiving TUD against the rival Patriots.

His insane versatility on the field stretches to his local community as well, where he started the “Brad Smith True Foundation” to help kids in his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio to promote “discipline, education and organized activity.”

Recently, BarberShopBlog spoke with him about his first season in Buffalo, his preferred position, and his recent stint as an intern/backstage interviewer at Men’s Health magazine.

BE: Since you’ve been in the league, we’ve seen an evolution where a QB who can run, like a Russell Wilson type, has become really valuable. Why do you think that’s happened now and what started the shift since you got into the league?

Brad Smith:I think there’s always been this type of player in the league, it’s not new- you’ve always had guys like Fran Tarkenton, Steve Young, Randall Cunningham and other guys like that who have had a lot of success. Players like that are hard to find and I think that’s a big part of it where colleges are going to the zone read- that’s not all that these guys can do. You can be multi-dimensional and people start saying, “hey they have to defend this, and then this.” Then, their running back gets more yards in the hole because they’re worried about this. It’s all about scheme, man.

BE: In your pro career, you’ve been used in a myriad of ways — wide receiver, quarterback, kick return, running back, special teams — is there a way that you visualize yourself as a player?

Brad Smith: It’s been crazy experience going on eight years now- because it’s always something new. First, I come in, work at receiver for a few plays, then I go to running back, coach calls a few plays, did that. Then go to quarterback and work on those plays. Then I will hear the coach say, “Hey can you return kicks?” So, I tried that. Then its special teams tackling and blocking. So I just got an appreciation for the entire game but just want to make sure I help the team. There’s no play that doesn’t matter- every play matters. I don’t know how to look at it any other way than that I’m just a football player who wants to win and get a Super Bowl championship.

BE: One thing I don’t like as a fan are the new kick return rules; it’s taken a lot of fun out of kick returns. How do you feel about that?

Brad Smith: I feel the same way. It’s definitely added a drag to the game. About half the time now the ball is going out of the end zone, and if it doesn’t, most teams don’t bring it out deep. You’ve got a lot of teams that do bring it out. You’re gonna see more and more teams just taking a chance and bringing it out.
